This painting was started on location in October. Sometimes it's so hard to know when it's done, and other times it seems to just happen. I think I will call it finished and move ahead.

"May our hearts be filled with gratitude as we step through the holidays and into a New Year,

For gratitude brightens the possibilities of our days."

Happy Thanksgiving!

I visited Corvallis today with art friends. We enjoyed doing some holiday shopping and seeing lots of fine arts and crafts at the Teal Cooperative Gallery.

Before we lost daylight, we headed for the OSU campus to see the amazing art installation of Patrick Dougherty. The woven willow sculptures are up to 20 feet high. As you walk through these structures you can't help but feel you are in a special place of wonder. The sculpture is located west of Gilkey hall. See this link for more about the artist. He has done over 200 installations.

Black, White & Gray Show

5th & Main
12x12 charcoal

I delivered "5th & Main" to Enid Joy Mount Gallery today for the Black, White & Gray Show coming up November 5th-26th, 2011. It's an annual event, and always a great show. Hours at the gallery are Thursday & Fridays 1 to 4pm, and Saturdays 10am to 4pm.

The original sketch for this piece was done on location in Springfield, Oregon outside the Emerald Art Center in a workshop with Colleen Howe the summer of 2010. I brought the sketch home and did a larger study on Arches cover white with charcoal. The perspective in this composition was a good challenge for me. I still may try to attempt it in color someday.......
