Getting Ready....

I've been looking through some of my reference photos,
getting ready for a show coming up in a few weeks....

It's amazing how just a portion of a photo can say so much!

Skies speak to me....
They are a constantly changing inspiration that nature
provides every day!

I've decided to simplify my goals for this month's
vision board.

"Seeing Differently"

I have yet to decide if this one is finished.....

Eco-Icon: Art About Environmentalism...

A new show is open at the Compass Gallery at the Willamette Heritage Center at Mission Mill.

The invitation to artists of all ages to participate in this show had the guidelines of working in any medium, with the work to measure 10 x 10", and to have been created in the last year.
It was also stated that the "artwork should portray or symbolize a person, place, object, plant or animal that has been pivotal in the environmental movement in the United States".

Kincaid's Lupine at Baskett Slough

Oil and Cold Wax
Here is my statement explaining how my subject relates to environmentalism:
Kincaid's lupine was federally listed as threatened in the year 2000.
It is an aromatic perennial flower the blooms in May and June in native grassland habitats.
Land use issues have caused native grasslands to decline in our area.
Here in the Willamette Valley, Kincaid's lupine can be found in the protected habitat at

After researching and choosing my subject I chose to complete my piece using oil and cold wax.
These are my reference photos taken on location in early June a couple of years ago
while at Baskett Slough plein air painting.

The opening reception is Thursday evening, March 12, 2015 from 5 - 7 pm.
There is a panel discussion about environmentalism, art demonstrations,
and open studios upstairs during this event.

The Show is open through March 28th!
