Nature Sketching at Deepwood...

Today is the summer solstice,
and I have celebrated this longest day of summer with fellow artist's
at
Deepwood Gardens
along with
Nature Sketching Group.

I started by sketching geraniums and violas,
and moved on to attempting to sketch fellow artist Kathleen
across the way near a bunch of hosta, then re-focused on the garden gate,
then a large tree in the distance.
It turned out to be a collage of scenes all sketched on a single page.

Here is a peek at Denise's sketchbook pages for June.

We all found plenty of inspiration in these beautiful English gardens.

Painting at Dancing Oaks...

 Plein Air Painting
at
started with a walk-about to
find that place that
speaks...
a place that inspires...
a place to capture in a painting.

Deanna and I each discovered those places that called to us.

I spent the afternoon watching pink poppies and yellow zinnias
shine in the sunlight and dance in the wind,
as I took on the challenge of capturing them with my pastels.

Here is a minute long video of the process....

A Birthday Art Day...

A bonus birthday celebration is spending time with art friends
on a beautiful summer day!
Starting the day with the
at
"Mission Mill"

 Here is my morning sketch,

and the group with all of their art.

There was so many amazing sketches done
of the many scenes around the property.

After the group finished up, I stayed to enjoy the
grounds with my art sisters

Denise,
 Leslie,
 and Deanna.

I brought out my pastels
and enjoyed this quiet spot by the creek.

Here is the studio vision board for June....
It seemed to be the appropriate name for
pastel painting from the day,
don't you think?
