Lavender Paint Out...

The Willamette Valley Lavender Paint Out
is an annual statewide event in Oregon.
This is the first year I have participated,
and I found it to be a wonderful opportunity to get out to new locations,
meet new people and paint plein air!

I was fortunate to have time to visit Red Ridge Farms on two days,
so I had a chance to work on the first larger painting again, and create another
smaller painting in another spot on their property that called to me. I was under
the shade of a tree looking out over the lavender field.

A few days later, I chose a location a little closer to home.
I drove out to West Salem to Sundance Lavender Farm.

I met a new artist friend while there. I discovered that
this is also the first year that Gay has participated in the event.
She was working in acrylic.

I started my paintings with doing an underpainting by laying in
shapes with hard pastels, then brushing the dry pastel with water to liquefy the pigment.

Then came the soft pastels to complete the painting.

The last plein air painting day Gay and I drove up and spent a good part of the day at
Wayward Winds Lavender Farm.

There was cloud cover and comfortable temperatures,
so I was able to set up out in the field and enjoy all the views!
